While trying to boot the windows home cd the computer goes into command mode i am not able to install?

i am not able to install windows xp home if i try to load it directly thru the setup file it gives message cannot install xp home bcoz a newer version is installed i have win xp on my sys but it has become curropt i want to install win home pls help
