Does Jesse Jackson really share the views of the black population in the U.S.?

Does Jesse Jackson really care about the black community, or is he just out to make as much money as possible by acting like he is fighting on your behalf? Why do so many people follow him blindly? The man fought for affirmative action and the people praised him for it. But if you listen to what he said about it he basically said that the African Americans are too stupid, lazy , and ignorant to go out and do it themselves. And he was praised as a hero for it. Our school standards were changed because according to him it was geared to help the white students. Again blacks are too stupid to keep up with the whites. Well I don't buy it and I think that every time someone shows their support for this man they are shooting themselves in the foot. Of course I could be reading this whole thing wrong. Let me know.
