How can i create a wedding cake?

My wedding cake i have chosen is a three tiered ivory cake, and in between the tiers there will be fresh roses BUT how do i build it up from cake to cake. IE do i use foam or oasis inbetween to put or hold the flowers still on... I am doing the cake myself due to lack of funds but still am struggling to pull it all togather. Thanks for any input Jess.
